A concrete floor grinder is a machine used to grind and polish concrete surfaces. It uses diamond abrasives to remove surface coatings, such as epoxy, paint, or adhesive residues, as well as stains and scratches, to create a smooth, polished surface.

Concrete floor grinders range in size, from small handheld grinders, which are ideal for edge or detail work, to large walk-behind grinders, and even bigger ride-on grinders. Each type of grinder is designed for different applications, job size, and productivity levels.

Smaller floor grinders (less than 20” in diameter are ideal for small areas or edgework. While these grinders have their place on the job site, we recommend that professional contractors invest in a larger machine for improved productivity.

 

Medium-size floor grinders (20-26" in diameter) offer a heavier weight and better productivity. These machines are a great choice for most small to mid-size jobs.

 

Large floor grinders (30" or greater in diameter) are heavy-duty powerhouses that deliver outstanding productivity rates on larger jobs in commercial spaces, such as warehouse or big retail environments.

The softer the concrete, the harder the abrasive you will need, while harder concrete requires softer abrasives. We recommend investing in a Mohs Scale Test Kit to determine the concrete hardness before grinding.

The level of use and the hardness of the concrete being worked on will determine how often you will need to replace the tooling. You will need to inspect the abrasive at regular intervals replace it when it is worn down.
