Stone Floor and Grout Sealing

Sealing of stone floors, ceramic, and grout for marble, slate, granite, terrazzo, porcelain, terra cotta, and quarry should happen every 1-2 years. This is a generic tech help to cover the sealing of these kinds of flooring.

Directions:

  1. Before sealing, make sure surface has been dry for 6-12 hours.
  2. Sweep floor to remove any abrasive debris.
  3. Apply Stonetech Stone & Tile Cleaner diluted at 2 oz per gallon of water and mop onto floor to clean floor.
  4. Cover all areas not being sealed to make sure sealer does not hit them.
  5. Liberally place StoneTech Heavy Duty Sealer or StoneTech Grout Sealer onto the surface until it is wet. Allow sealer to completely penetrate into surface/grout for 5-15 minutes.
  6. When surface begins to dry within 5-15 minutes, wet it again with the sealer as needed.
  7. After 30 minutes, wipe off any excess sealer with a clean and dry white terry cloth towel.
  8. If sealer was not completely wiped off and residue appears, wipe entire surface with a towel dampened with sealer. Use a white nylon pad to loosen residue and follow with a clean white absorbent towel to remove.
  9. A full cure is achieved after 24-48 hours; foot traffic may begin in 4 hours.

Sealing Interior and Exterior Stone Surfaces

Sealing stone surfaces helps to protect against stains. This protection also makes it easier to clean the stone. These directions cover sealing marble, granite, limestone, slate, travertine, sandstone, flagstone, and terrazzo. Always test in a small inconspicuous area with a 24-hour cure time to determine ease of application and desired results. Allow new grout installations to cure for a minimum of 72 hours prior to application. Make sure surface is clean, dry, and free of waxes and coatings.

Directions:

  1. Mask off and protect any baseboards or adjacent areas to avoid splashing and over-spray onto surfaces not intended to be treated.
  2. Sealer may be applied to damp surfaces one hour after standing water has been removed.
  3. Liberally apply an even coat using a paint pad, low-pressure chemical-resistant sprayer, roller, or brush.
  4. Allow sealer to penetrate the surface for 15-30 minutes. During this time, distribute excess over entire area to ensure even penetration. Wipe entire surface thoroughly with clean dry towel.
  5. A second coat may be needed for porous, absorbent surfaces and should be applied 30-40 minutes after initial application as directed in steps 3-4.
  6. A minimum of 15 minutes after final application, wipe entire surface with a clean dry towel to remove any excess sealer. If needed, dampen white nylon pad with sealer to remove residue and dry again thoroughly with clean dry towel.
  7. A full cure is achieved after 24-72 hours; foot traffic may begin in 6-8 hours.
  8. Clean equipment with water.

Stone Floor Sealing with Color Enhancer

Stone sealers protect the floor from stains and help make them weather and chlorine resistant. Sealer with a color enhancer enriches the color of the stone.

Directions:

  1. Mask off and protect any baseboards or adjacent areas to avoid splashing and overspray onto surfaces not intended to be treated.
  2. Liberally apply an even coat of sealer using a paint pad, roller, brush or low-pressure, solvent-resistant sprayer.
  3. Allow product to penetrate surface for 15-20 minutes. Denser material may require more time to penetrate. During this time, distribute excess over entire area to ensure even penetration. Completely wipe surface dry with clean, dry terrycloth towel. DO NOT ALLOW IT TO DRY COMPLETELY ON SURFACE.
  4. A second coat may be needed for porous, absorbent surfaces or if a darker appearance is required. The second coat should be applied one hour after initial application as directed in steps 2-3.
  5. A full cure is achieved after 24-72 hours; foot traffic may begin in 6-8 hours.
  6. Clean equipment with water.
