Chuck Dewald is a man who thought outside the box,
built his own “flood test house”, and revolutionized
the restoration industry.
As most of you know, Chuck is the founder of the “original”
3-Day Hands-On Drying School. They say that imitation is
the highest form of flattery; Chuck's school has often been
copied but never duplicated. Where else can you get real
world information and the truth about what works and why,
regardless of the manufacturer?
In 2006, after 25 years in the restoration business and
10 years teaching his Chuck Dewald Structural Drying Course,
Chuck chose his son, Chuck III, and Jerry Blaylock to take
over the school. Wanting to give the school a “national
flavor”, the name was changed to the American Drying
Institute (ADI), all the while maintaining the same core
values that Chuck has always insisted upon. At the Institute’s
facility in Tennessee, students go through an intense 3
days of hands-on training in order to become ADI certified.
However, ADI recognized that what was lacking in the industry
was a “Basic 101” course, giving you and your
techs the information needed to go out the next day and
know how to set up a successful drying job. After much pleading,
the “old man” agreed to come out of retirement.
The result: the ADI Certified Drying 101 Seminar.
Now he’s back to teach you his real-world
drying techniques in the 2-day ADI Certified Drying 101
Seminar
WHO SHOULD ATTEND? New techs, owners, project
managers, estimators, marketing personnel, lead techs, and
ADI certified techs looking for a refresher course.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN? Those of you who
know Chuck realize that he has a unique way of getting down
to the “Nuts and Bolts” of drying. This is a
long, 2-day, hard charging course with no “FLUFF!”
1. Learn how to present yourself and your company as a PROFESSIONAL
to the customer as well as to the insurance company.
2. Extraction – Learn the best ways to extract the
“easy water” out of a structure. Understand
how changing what appears to be a simple technique into
a more efficient water removal process will have dramatic
effects in your overall drying time.
3. Meters - Which meters do you need and which ones are
a waste of time? Meters are vital to providing a true scope
of what is wet-especially when it comes to hidden pockets
of moisture-and using them correctly will insure faster,
more complete drying on every job. It will also reinforce
your professional image as you use your meters to show “Mrs.
Jones” where her structure is wet and prove to her
that it is dry.
4. Drying Chamber - One of the best-kept secrets in dramatically
reducing drying time. Learn how a few simple tools can speed
up drying time by as much as 50%, while insuring that non-affected
areas stay that way. After years of teaching insurance companies,
we have found that nothing impresses them more than understanding
the importance of the drying chamber.
5. Understanding the various classes of water loss –
Class I, II, II, IV and how knowing which you are dealing
with effects your drying process as well as equipment calculation
and how your dehumidifiers perform.
6. Dehumidifier setup- Going beyond the plugging in process
to proper placement and specific setups that will improve
water removal efficiency. Chuck will show you how to take
some of the industry's best dehumidifiers and increase their
performance by as much as 40 to 60%.
7. HEPA - You'll learn why HEPA filter systems are more
in demand than ever before and why you want one on every
water loss.
8. Air movers and set up – How changing the placement
of air movers can have a huge effect on drying times. How
to calculate the number and type of air movers needed for
any given job. Do you know the amperage, BTU's and CFM's
given off by your equipment and the part this plays in how
your structure dries? You will after this class.
9. Moisture Mapping – Learn how to track the drying
process on every job using simple diagrams to show where
your structure is wet and where equipment is to be placed.
Properly documenting your drying process from beginning
to end is being mandated more and more by insurance companies.
10. Psychrometrics – A lot of companies are taking
psychrometric readings on every job, but have no idea what
those readings are telling them. FINALLY, learn what those
readings show. Do you have it set up so that it will dry
as fast as possible? And then, is it REALLY dry? HOW CAN
YOUR COMPANY DO ANOTHER WATER LOSS WITHOUT TRULY UNDERSTANDING
THIS?
11. ADI HVAC -Did you know that the temperature in the drying
chamber affects whether your dehumidifiers pull water? Learn
how to use the new portable technology to insure environmental
temperature control that will maximize drying and improve
dehumidifier capacity.
ADI CERTIFICATION TEST: $40 (not included in registration
fee) to be paid to instructor. Check or cash only please.
